CA Notify is the official COVID-19 exposure notification app of California developed by Google, Apple, and the California Department of Public Health. It helps slow the spread of COVID-19 by supporting local contact tracing efforts and the State's prevention program. The app works in the background and exchanges anonymous keys with nearby devices, recording the signal strength, duration, and date of exposure. The keys are only stored on the user's device and deleted after 14 days. If a user tests positive, they can obtain a verification code to activate the notification function. Other app users will be notified of possible exposure. The app prioritizes privacy and does not collect personal data or track location.
